About Us

The Hibiscus Society of Queensland Inc. is a not-for-profit garden club for people who love growing hibiscus.

Whether you have a single plant on the patio or a garden full of exotic hybrids, you’ll find a warm welcome with us. Our members range from complete beginners to growers with decades of experience, and everyone has something to share.

Our aims

  • To encourage the growing and enjoyment of hibiscus in Queensland
  • To share practical knowledge about growing, propagating and caring for hibiscus
  • To foster friendship and a generous exchange of plants and ideas between growers
  • To promote hibiscus to the wider community through displays and events
  • To celebrate and help preserve the many beautiful varieties bred by Queensland and Australian hybridisers

What we do

We meet on the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 am in Ormeau. Meetings are relaxed and friendly, with a chance to show off your blooms, ask questions, hear from guest speakers, and swap cuttings and plants. Find out more about our meetings.

Our committee

Our first committee will be listed here soon.

Our history

We are a newly formed association, but hibiscus have brought Queenslanders together for a long time. An earlier Hibiscus Society of Queensland was founded in 1993 and was active for around twenty years. Read about the society’s history.
